Free DMCA takedown notice generator

Fill in the details, get a notice containing every element the law requires — free, and nothing you type leaves your browser

A DMCA takedown notice has to contain six specific things to be valid under 17 U.S.C. §512(c)(3). Notices get rejected mostly because one of them is missing — no sworn statement, no address, a URL that points at a search page instead of the infringing page. This tool assembles all six around your details.

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is transmitted, stored, or logged — copy or download the notice before you close the tab.

Your details

A DMCA notice must carry the real name of the copyright owner or their authorized agent.

Optional. Helps the recipient connect the notice to the content.

Most recipients require one. See the FAQ below on filing without exposing your home address.

The content

Be specific: what the content is, when you published it, and where.

Optional, one URL per line. Strengthens the ownership claim.

One per line. Link to the exact page hosting the copy, not a search result or homepage.

The recipient

The platform, host, or designated copyright agent — not the person who posted it.

How to send a DMCA takedown notice

  1. 1

    Identify what was copied

Describe the copyrighted work you own — the specific photo set, video, or collection that was republished without your permission.

  2. 2

    Collect the infringing URLs

Copy the full URL of every page hosting the infringing copy. One notice can list multiple URLs as long as they infringe the same work. Screenshot each page before filing, in case it is taken down or moved.

  3. 3

    Add your contact details

A valid DMCA notice must include the complaining party's name, address, phone number, and email so the recipient can respond or forward a counter-notice.

  4. 4

    Include the two required statements

The notice must state a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized, and state under penalty of perjury that the information is accurate and that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner.

  5. 5

Sign and send it to the right recipient

Type your name as an electronic signature, then send the notice to the platform's designated copyright agent — usually a form or a dmca@ / copyright@ address listed in its terms or DMCA policy.

  6. 6

Track the response and follow up

Note the date sent, watch for an acknowledgement, and re-send or escalate to the host or CDN if the content is still up after a reasonable window. Also request Google deindexing for URLs that appear in search results.

Frequently asked questions

Is a DMCA notice generated by this tool legally valid?

The template includes all six elements that 17 U.S.C. §512(c)(3) requires of a valid notification: your signature, identification of the copyrighted work, identification of the infringing material and its location, your contact details, a good-faith belief statement, and a statement of accuracy made under penalty of perjury. Validity in practice also depends on the details you fill in being accurate and on you actually owning or being authorized to act for the owner of the work. This tool is a template, not legal advice.

Where do I send the notice?

To the designated copyright agent of the service hosting the content — not to the person who posted it. Most platforms publish a DMCA form or a copyright@ / dmca@ address in their terms of service or a dedicated copyright page. For US-hosted sites, the agent is also registered in the Copyright Office's DMCA agent directory. If the site itself ignores notices, send to its hosting provider or CDN, which you can find with a WHOIS lookup, and separately request removal from Google Search.

Do I have to include my real name and address?

A DMCA notice requires the complaining party's real contact information, and recipients can reject a notice without it. Many platforms also forward the complete notice to the person who posted the content, and some publish it to the Lumen database. That is a real safety concern for creators, and it is why authorized-agent filing exists: an agent files in their own name on your behalf. Proprias does this on the Defend and VIP plans, keeping your legal name, home address, and phone off the notice.

Do I need a registered copyright to file?

No. Copyright exists automatically when you create an original work, and DMCA notices do not require registration. Registration matters if you later sue for statutory damages, but it is not a prerequisite for a takedown request.

What happens after I send it?

If the notice is valid and the host participates in the DMCA safe harbor, it should remove or disable access to the material expeditiously and notify the uploader. The uploader may file a counter-notice asserting the material was removed by mistake; if they do, the host may restore the content after 10–14 business days unless you file a court action. Keep records of everything you send and receive.

Can I list several URLs in one notice?

Yes, as long as they all infringe the same copyrighted work and are handled by the same recipient. If different hosts are involved, send a separate notice to each — the recipient can only act on material it controls.

Does anything I type here get sent to Proprias?

No. The generator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is transmitted, stored, or logged — closing the tab discards it. Copy or download the notice before you leave the page.

Legal disclaimer

This generator produces a template, not legal advice, and using it does not create an attorney–client relationship. A DMCA notice includes a statement made under penalty of perjury — send one only for content you own or are authorized to act for. Knowingly materially misrepresenting that material is infringing can carry liability under 17 U.S.C. §512(f). Consult an attorney for anything contested or complex.

The notice is the easy part

Finding every mirror, capturing evidence before it disappears, and chasing the hosts that ignore the first notice is the work. Proprias scans daily, preserves hashes and screenshots in an evidence vault, and — on Defend and VIP — files as your authorized agent so your legal name stays off the notice.
