How to remove stolen art and photos from Pinterest

Copyright reports that can remove every identical copy of an image at once.

Pinterest is where artwork and photography travel furthest without credit: one repin becomes hundreds, usually linking somewhere other than you. The upside is that Pinterest's copyright process can target an image, not just a single Pin.

Only the copyright owner, or an agent authorized to act for them, can file. If you took the photo or made the artwork, that is usually you.

Legal basis: DMCA §512, through Pinterest's copyright policy and designated copyright agent.

Where to file

Pinterest copyright policy

Explains the process and links to the online copyright report form. The form is the fastest route and walks you through the required statements.

Pinterest Help Center

The Help Center article on copyright also links to the report form and lists the copyright agent's email and postal address if you prefer to send a written notice.

What you need

  • The URL of each infringing Pin, or a Pin containing the image if you want every copy removed
  • A link to, or description of, your original work
  • Your contact details and full legal name as the signature
  • The two DMCA statements: good-faith belief the use isn't authorized, and that your notice is accurate under penalty of perjury

Typical response time

Typically days. Removed Pins count toward the pinner's strikes under Pinterest's repeat-infringer policy.

What usually goes wrong

  • Start the report by asking Pinterest to remove all Pins that contain the image. That removes identical copies across the platform, not just the one Pin you found.
  • Only identical copies are matched. If someone resized, cropped, or edited the image, those versions need their own reports.
  • Removing the Pin doesn't touch the website it links to. If the Pin points to a site hosting your work, send that site a DMCA notice too.
  • The general "Report Pin" option is for policy violations, not copyright. Use the copyright form so the notice carries legal weight.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get every copy of my image removed from Pinterest at once?

Yes, for identical copies. Pinterest's copyright report lets you ask it to remove all Pins that contain the image. Edited or resized versions aren't matched, so report those separately.

Someone pinned my art with credit. Can I still have it removed?

Yes. Credit isn't permission. If you didn't authorize the use, you can file a copyright report, though many artists choose to leave credited Pins that link back to them.

Does Pinterest remove the website the Pin links to?

No. Pinterest only controls the Pin. The linked site is a separate takedown, sent to that site or its host.

Legal disclaimer

This guide is general information, not legal advice. Platform processes and response times change, so confirm the current route on the platform's own help pages before filing. A DMCA notice contains a statement made under penalty of perjury — file only for content you own or are authorized to act for. Consult an attorney for contested or complex situations.

Filing is the last step

Proprias scans daily across Google, image results, X, Reddit, forums, Instagram, TikTok and the open web, preserves hashes and screenshots before content moves, and — on Defend and VIP — files as your authorized agent so your legal name stays off the notice.
